Welcome to the Waste Smart Schools and Families project
Council in partnership with the Gould League is delivering an exciting waste minimisation pilot project to ten schools and early education centres in Boroondara. The project has been supported with funding from the Metropolitan Local Government Waste and Resource Recovery Fund. Additional project support is being provided by Sustainable Resource Use (SRU).
The aim of the Waste Smart Schools and Families Project is to test new approaches to engaging schools, early education centres and their families in practices and behaviours to reduce waste going to landfill (especially organic waste), as well as recycling. Schools and early education centres taking part in the pilot will be accredited in the AuSSI Vic Waste Module and will achieve partial completion of the AuSSI Vic Core Sustainability Module.
A series of take-home activities and fun interactive games will be available for families to use with their children to explore and learn more.
Pending further funding and successful completion of the pilot, the Waste Smart Schools and Families project will be offered to other schools and early education centres in 2015.
Only schools and early education centres taking part in the pilot project have been provided with a login to access the Family Waste Tracker Tool from this web page.
Further information on the Waste Smart Schools and Families Project is available from Andrea Lomdahl, City of Boroondara, Senior Sustainability Officer, 9278 4889.
